Tom Gardner (born April 16, 1968) is one of the three founding members of the investment advisory firm The Motley Fool. He is now the Chairman and CEO of The Motley Fool. He is also the creator of The Motley Fool Hidden Gems newsletter, which seeks to identify the most promising small public businesses for investment and is published weekly. It has very good ratings from The Hulbert Digest, a watchdog for the financial newsletter business, as well as The Motley Fool Stock Advisor (in which he competes with his brother, David). Gardner attended Brown University, where he received a B.A. with honours in English and Creative Writing in 1990, among other accolades. The Motley Fool was gathering pace at the time, and he decided to leave his master’s degree studies at the University of Montana in order to return to the Washington, D.C., region. In 2000, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Strayer University. When he and his elder brother David Gardner founded The Motley Fool in 1993, they did so with the goal of educating people about saving and investing in general. Their father had taught them how to invest, and the two of them were successful.
